Coronavirus (COVID-19)
We would like to reassure you that we are making every effort to ensure that healthy patients are not exposed to Coronavirus while in our offices. When possible, any Coronavirus testing is being done in a designated area outside of the office. If you have concerns regarding your child's safety in our offices, we would be happy to answer any questions you may have.
As pediatricians, we feel it is important to continue seeing patients for their well visits, sports physicals and immunizations - as is the current recommendation of the AAP. We will be continuing to ask screening questions when you call for appointments. Our staff will be wearing masks for your protection. We encourage you to use masks while visiting the office as well. |
As a community, our priority is to reduce the spread of Coronavirus. To help us in this goal, we would appreciate if you: 1) Notify us when you call for appointments if you think you or your child may have Coronavirus symptoms and/or have been exposed to Coronavirus. These symptoms include, but are not limited to: - Fever and cough - Difficulty breathing - Changes in taste and/or smell - Bruise-like rash on feet or hands - Eye redness 2) Minimize the number of people accompanying patients to the office. |
Coronavirus testing is available on a limited basis at our Village Pointe location. As is the case with most viral illnesses, treatment is primarily symptomatic with fluids and fever control. Antibiotics are not effective. As such, when the symptoms are mild it is acceptable to monitor at home.
Antibody testing is available at our Village Pointe location. The COVID 19 IgG is a venous blood draw in our office which is sent to the UNMC lab for results. Results return as either positive or negative. Specimens are run daily, and the results should be ready in approximately 24 hours.
IgG levels may be detected about 14 days after acute COVID 19 infection, or in individuals who have been exposed enough to have antibodies. At this time, it is unclear what level of exposure can lead to positive IgG levels, or how long after exposure an individual will have detectable levels of IgG (IgM levels are not tested).
This test cannot be used to diagnose acute COVID 19 disease or prove immunity.
The cost to test for antibodies is 150$ without insurance.
